Many that own a gun have never taken a safety course or know what legal issues they face if their weapon falls into the wrong hands. For example; 1,500 children die accidentally from guns in the home every year. More than 22 million children are living in homes with guns and more than half of those gun owners keep them loaded and unlocked. How many more must die before we hold gun owners to the same standard as car owners and require that they know how to use and keep their weapon safely.
We also need a dialog with respect to ammunition and reloading materials; something that has been missing from the debate. Perhaps requiring a permit to buy ammo.
We need to protect our Second Amendment rights; but we need to protect us from ourselves as well.
