In the Information Era, where access to news, information, and data is available instantly and easily shareable, it is impertinent for public policy reasons that satire news organizations, whether independent websites or social media pages, be upfront and honest about their satirical nature. The intentional dissemination of false information in order to incite hatred or vilification of individuals, ethnic groups, religions, or political belief undermines the virtue and value attached to Free Speech. We as Americans should stand up and require that consumers-- that is, those who read such websites-- are protected from false information by intentionally deceitful writers and companies.
