Require schools, movie theaters, and other public places (malls) to have metal detectors in order to find weapons.

Some schools already have metal detectors installed in order to prevent guns and other weapons from being brought into schools. If all schools and public gathering places implemented this system, tragedies like the Connecticut Elementary School massacre and the shooting in the Oregon mall could be prevented.
