Require Selective Service registration for all 18–26 year old citizens of the United States without respect to gender

On July 2, 1980, the President signed Proclamation 4771, Registration Under the Military Selective Service Act re-establishing Selective Service registration for 18–26 year old male citizens. The constitutionality of excluding women was decided in 1981 by the United States Supreme Court, with the Court holding that registering only men did not violate the due process clause of the Constitution because, "The existence of the combat restrictions clearly indicates the basis for Congress' decision to exempt women from registration." On January 23, 2013, the Pentagon decided to end its policy of excluding women from combat positions. Therefore, it is now fitting and appropriate that the act be amended to require registration of all citizens aged 18–26 regardless of gender.
