Require Self-Funded Health Plans authorized under ERISA to cover Applied Behavior Analysis, an evidence based treatment

Created by .F. on January 28, 2013

A majority of the states require that all health plans cover ABA, a evidence-based treatment for autism. Health plans that cover federal employees, military personnel, and their families also must cover ABA. Peer-reviewed studies have shown that early intervention with sufficient hours per week of ABA resulted in 47% of participants being placed in a MAINSTREAM kindergarten class. In other words, they were on the road to getting their life back. Under ERISA, large corporations, in order not to have to accommodate insurance laws of 50 states, are allowed to self-insure and bypass state insurance law. Corporations are twisting these privileges to discriminate against persons with autism, and will flood government programs while still collecting tax breaks for providing health insurance
