The SNAP program does not require participants to buy healthy food. They are allowed to buy unhealthy food with the tax payers money. This not only affects the health of them and their family, but it also creates more health care costs because of their health problems related to such diets. I suggest that the government track the participants purchases and if they buy too large a percentage of unhealthy food, the government would then step in. The percentage could be determined by health care professionals. If the participants did not agree to start buying healthier alternatives, then the government could reduce their benefits to a lower level. I believe that this would not only improve the health of the participants but also save money due to these health improvements.
