When someone becomes ill, or injured with a disabling condition they must wait a lengthy amount of time to have their claim reviewed. Generally this wait is around 100 days, yet the percentage of claims denied upon the first time application is around 85%. Then most must file an appeal, and the average wait time for an appeal hearing is 12 months, to 2 years. When someone can't work because of a disability 1 year, let alone 2 years, this is a very long amount of time to live without any income. The most used reason given for the long wait time is that the Administration is underemployed. This needs to be addressed.
Thank you.
