Whereas currently both citizens and non-citizens may easily vote multiple times in elections, the results cannot accurately represent to will of the people. Those who vote legally have their voices count less than the voices of those who vote illegally.
Identification is already required for everyday activities such as driving a vehicle or using a credit card. Such identification is easy to obtain - the vast majority of Americans already have something as common as a drivers license, and those who do not can easily obtain a government-issued identification card for little or no cost. Voter ID requirements have not caused any problems in the states which already have them.
Requiring identification in order to vote will restore integrity to the voting process without unduly burdening anyone.
