The American people deserve competitive and fair congressional districts. The process of Gerrymandering has created congressional districts that are a nearly guaranteed win for the party in the majority. Non-competitive districts remove the check-and-balances the people hold over elected officials.
Additionally, Gerrymandered districts create confusing voting boundaries for constituents, and they create complicated and costly boundaries for elections officials to manage (i.e. county clerks).
Eleven states currently utilize non-partisan or bi-partisan redistricting commissions composed of non-office-holding citizens. The states include: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, and Washington. All states should be required to follow suit.
