Miscarriage is not only a tragic- it's also often avoidable.
Tens of thousands- if not hundreds of thousands- of losses could be prevented if testing for chromosome abnormalities were routinely performed.
When women lose a pregnancy after 10 weeks gestation, studies show that only 5% of these later losses are caused by fetal chromosome abnormality. By definition, that leaves 95% having a medical cause. Without testing, women continue to lose subsequent pregnancies. This is known as recurrent pregnancy loss(RPL).
Medical guidelines based on outdated studies say that just 1% of women will suffer RPL. This number understates the problem.
Let's get usable data and prove that this devastating but often treatable problem is significant. Let's start identifying and treating RPL.
