I recently discovered from researching others' experiences at a large chain retailer that, as part of their return policy, they request to see your ID, which is shared with an organization that tracks returns and exchanges (The Retail Equation). After checking one of my receipts from said store, it only includes that a valid receipt and ID are required, and that "ID info may be stored in a secure, encrypted database used for tracking returns & exchanges."
While I trust that retailer with my information, I never agreed that my info be shared with a company whose involvement is never revealed (unless flagged as an "abuser.")
I am asking for a mandatory, clearly visible notice that, in order to exercise consumer rights, personal information will be shared with a specific company.
