Require that student loans only enter repayment after borrows reach a minimum yearly income standard of $30,000/yr

Created by K.S. on June 23, 2014

Currently college graduates are given a short grace period before entering repayment. Due to this prolonged economic recession many recent graduates enter repayment on their loans with very little to no income. How can recent graduates repay their loans if they have no income? This is unreasonable.

As a response to this, there must be a minimum income requirement before borrowers are entered into their repayment period. This minimum income standard should not be lower than $30,000 a year.

This idea seems radical and it gives the appearance that no one has done this before. Except it is the policy of several countries right now. The United Kingdom and Australia both require a minimum income before borrows on student loans enter into repayment.

Australia's is set at $40,000/yr
