The vast majority of traffic collisions are caused by drunk driving, driving while distracted, speeding, and a general lack of awareness, all of which can be minimized with a little common sense. The exams that are currently required are not sufficient measurements of driving ability for every day situations. Knowledge of Traffic Laws, though important, will not prevent unintelligent driving. Current exams should not be done away with; just added to. No exam can prepare anyone for every day situations; only experience can do that. However, an intelligence exam would serve as a way of determining whether or not a potential driver has the mental capability of driving intelligently at all times, not just in dangerous situations.
