Require all teacher education programs to provide extensive training in providing evidence based instructional methods for teaching children to read. Focusing on teaching specific skills to teach the "big 5" components of effective reading instruction. Our students are failing is this is much of the reason why. It is preventable but our teachers are ill equiped for the classroom.
