Require that the tele-communications companies not be allowed to require services of their customers, such as data plans

Created by B.M. on March 15, 2013

Telecommunication companies such as AT&T and Verizon are requiring customers to purchase certain services based on the devices they wish to have, regardless of whether the customers actually want those services. For example, AT&T's policy is that if a cellular mobile device has a full keyboard then the customer must purchase at minimum a texting plan; if it has a touch screen then they must purchase a full data plan. This can cost users anywhere from $5 to $30 extra per cellular device per month they have. Not everyone wants to pay for these services; some like myself would rather use Wireless networks (WiFi) instead of the Cellular Data Network. This kinds of requirements ought to be illegal or at least the FCC should not allow the communications companies to make such requirements.
