Advanced Placement and other such programs are part of a growing problem in today's educational system. They are the epitome of "teaching to the test," a practice that is dangerous, reckless, and intellectually destructive.
The purpose of an education shouldn't be to pass a test at the end of the year. There is no way a year's worth of growth and enlightenment can be reduced to a number.
Too much of a focus is put on the test in today's educational culture. With such a focus, if the student does not pass the AP exam, he or she might as well not have taken the course. Education should be for the sake of education, not masturbatory scores.
As such, we respectfully ask the focus to shift away from the test, and any such courses with such a focus on the test be banned from public schools.
