Fracking wells have been a tremendous boon to our economy, however the question of whether fracking pollutes our water supply remains unresolved, and there are enough anecdotes about illness and burnable tap water to be worthy of concern.
We propose that the appropriate federal agency require the addition of tracers to fracking fluids. If such tracers were A) uniquely identifiable, B) not naturally occurring, and C) compatible with fracking fluid, each fracking well would have a "fingerprint" that would allow water to be analyzed for its presence and quantity. This would provide us a clear answer to the question of fracking and pollution.
The oil companies want to show that their fracking wells aren’t polluting aquifers, and the rest of us want to know they aren't. Let's get it done.
