Federal regulations should require a type I or type III ambulance for all medical transports of bariatric patients. Type II or Van type ambulances do not offer the space required for healthcare providers to provide adequate treatment to obese patients. As a result type II ambulance bariatric transports further endanger the health and safety of EMS providers and patients alike.
