The governments method of reporting the debt to the public is extremely deceptive. The GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) would show the average person a more reflective representation of the debt, similar to what the government requires of most businesses. Current methods do not take into account unfunded accounts such as social security and many other funds. It is estimated that with these added in the national debt would not be 16 trillion, but more closely to 88 trillion. A deception that must stop.
