We the people ask the federal government to Call on Congress to act on an issue:

Require the usage of body-worn cameras on all Police Officers employed in the United States when on duty

Created by N.M. on July 10, 2016

Requiring police officers to wear body-worn cameras has been proven to result in fewer complaints against officers, and fewer incidents of excessive force being used by the officers. According to the New York Times, in Rialto, California a study conducted on the effects of officers wearing body cameras has shown an 88% decrease in complaints against officers compared to the previous year, and a 60% decrease in use of force. The usage of body-worn cameras also creates an objective perspective of police encounters, and eliminates the he said she said (Ian Lovett).
This petition aims to equip all of our nation's officers with body-worn cameras, in hopes that we can see a decline in force, as was seen in Rialto, California- one of few cities involved in studying the effects of body cameras.
