require that voting machines in federal elections give hard copy receipts upon request

Created by E.P. on October 25, 2012

We petition the government to require that any election machine used in a federal election in the United States or its territories be able to provide a hard copy receipt to the voter upon request by the voter; this receipt should verify the date, time, place of the vote, and also the choices made. The fact that the receipt is available upon request shall be prominently posted in all polling places, in all languages deemed appropriate by the federal government. Further, absentee/mail-in ballots shall be scanned and kept in secure electronic storage for 2 years; a copy of a voter's ballot shall be made available to the voter at no charge to the voter upon verification of identification of the voter by those documents deemed acceptable by the federal government.
