Xylitol, an artificial sweetener used in sugar free baked goods, while not having any immediate health symptoms in humans, is extremely dangerous in animals such as dogs or cats. Canine or feline consumption of even small amounts of xylitol can result in kidney failure and death.
This petition would require any products intended for human consumption that contain xylitol to have warnings explaining the dangers of the chemical to animals or pets displayed on the packaging.
