In light of the recent attacks by hackers on many notable web sites, people need to be provided a way to protest themselves online better. All too often sites hold on to user information, in some cases for years, and all this information is ripe for the picking if that company ignores their data security.
Many sites simply offer no way for a user to remove an account or any information which that company has collected. There needs to a reasonable way for users to request and verify any and all data collected by a company is deleted. The protection should error on the side of the individual, not the business.
