We petition the government to require women to register for Selective Service on their 18th birthday. The US military is now opening up most combat positions to women so as to grant them full equality. But along with equality of rights comes equality of responsibility. Ever since the Carter administration young men have been forced to register with Selective Service, then spend the next eight years of their lives with the threat of being called up in a reinstituted draft hanging over their heads. We believe that if men and women are to be treated equally in regards to military service, that they should be treated equally in all regards. We therefore petition the government to require women to register for Selective Service on their 18th birthday, or to drop that requirement for men.
