Marijuana should be rescheduled as a class III drug as it currently does not meet the criteria for a class I drug. This will allow federally funded institutions to study the drug without risk of losing their federal funding, thus enabling more detailed medical information to be provided to the public. This could also save billions in drug enforcement expenditures and potentially generate billions of additional tax dollars from the legal prescription of this drug on a national scale.
