rescind Army "Indian Wars" Campaign Streamer and reissue as "Frontier Occupation" Campaign Streamer.

Created by M.F. on November 02, 2014

This petition requests that the President in his authority as the Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces initiate a review of Army Regulation 840-1 regarding the continued use of the heraldic "Indian Wars" Campaign Streamer.

Based on commonly agreed historical records and events, military pacification events and subsequent removals of Native American populations from their ancestral homelands were dark episodes in our national history and are undeserved of a heraldic honor as it represents an undeclared war against those who did not have the means to effectively resist.

If agreed based on the weight of history, it is requested that the President honor the memory of both sides of this era and re-title the streamer under existing criteria to read "Frontier Occupation" for continued use.
