Beginning January 16th, 2013, petitions filed on WhiteHouse.org's We the People platform will need to log 100,000 signatures in 30 days to receive an official response from the Obama Administration.
This quadruples the previous minimum of 25,000 required. We request the number of online signatures required be set back to the original 25,000 required or compromise and reduce the number to 50,000.
We believe everybody's voice should be heard, but are realistic and understand that some may abuse and clog the process with trivial petitions. We feel raising the number required to 100,000 is unrealistic and may deter people from bringing forward real issues that need addressing. A middle ground of 50,000 may seem more acceptable to weed out the trivial and absurd petitions.
