It is beyond belief that the government would attempt to regain signing bonuses given more than 10 years ago to veterans who served our nation at the risk of life and limb. If the government screwed up, it should live with the decade-old error and leave the people who defended this nation alone. It was enough to answer the call--no one should have to go bankrupt or into debt returning a legitimately given bonus.
