If the government is going to make determinations on the legality of marijuana through scientific studies, then the reverse should be true for alcohol. Claims against the legalization include, potential for abuse, increased potency, danger to underage abuse, reduced productivity, potential for violence and more. Alcohol is a legal drug that possesses all of the same negative attributes. In addition, alcohol has a documented verifiable history of these effects, including drunk driving incidents, domestic abuse, underage drinking problems, fetal alcohol syndrome, alcoholism and more. While theorized and studied, these same effects are not as thoroughly documented in terms of marijuana use. In light of these facts, it seems as though if marijuana is illegal then alcohol should be too.
