Research the ionosphere to extend and enhance telecommunications.

I propose that we create a small grant to study the feasibility of using the magnetic and electrical properties of the ionosphere, the atmosphere between 50 and 300 miles above sea level. This region of the atmosphere has a very high electrical charge and we routinely use the ionosphere to deflect AM radio waves at night. Because the ionosphere has a high electrical charge I think it could be used to extend and enhance our telecommunications needs, especially mobile phones and wireless internet. If it is feasible we could usher in a faster and cheaper means to have mobile phone coverage and wireless internet nationwide instead of using thousands of cell towers that only give great coverage in populated areas.
