Many people want to see the Infantry open to female soldiers; others oppose this. But, there has been little research on the possibility.
This is a proposal for a long-term comparison study between three Infantry battalions over five years. All soldiers involved will be volunteers. Physical test (APFT) standards must be the same for both sexes, and conform to present male standards. The three units proposed:
1. One integrated unit (male & female). The unit should be 13% females, to reflect present demographics of the US Army.
2. One all-female unit.
3. One all-male unit, as a comparison group.
After five years, combat effectiveness and cohesion of units will be assessed. Participating soldiers will be surveyed. Reports will be submitted to DOD, Congress, POTUS, and made public.
