Residents would like to raise chickens for educational & food purposes. Our city will only allow if you have 2 acres

Created by J.H. on September 16, 2014

The City of Mentor OH will only allow you to raise chickens if you have 2 or more acres. Many surrounding cities does not have this stipulation attached to the raising of chickens. In our city there are not many lots which meet this criteria. When I approached city council about what actions needed to be taken to try and change this ordinance, my question was passed along to the city lawyer. His response to me was "we are already taking a resident to court for having chickens so just obey the law and it won't be an issue". Since city council will not help or even listen to many of the residences plea, I am trying a new course of action.
