Resolve the disputed sovereignty of Machias Seal Island, claimed by both the United States and Canada, by rolling a die.

Created by M.S. on February 08, 2012

Machias Seal Island, in the Gulf of Maine, is claimed by both the United States and Canada. This has been the case for hundreds of years. I propose that this situation be resolved by rolling a six-sided die. If any of the numbers 1 through 3 come up, the United States renounces its claim, and the island belongs to Canada, undisputed. If any of the numbers 4 through 6 come up, Canada renounces its claim, and the island belongs to the United States, undisputed.

The die shall be produced by a neutral party that both nations deem acceptable (Switzerland, perhaps) and both nations shall have the opportunity to examine the die before it is rolled. It shall be rolled on a standard craps table, with one hand, and must bounce off of the far wall of the table in order for the roll to count.
