President Obama said in the debates prior to the election that he wants to "see if we can get an assault weapons ban re-introduced." One need only review the old federal assault weapons ban to see how absurd it is. All it does is make cosmetic changes to the firearms that serve no meaningful purpose (in fact, Congress allowed the ban to expire because it did not reduce crime). For example, banning collapsible stocks only means you cannot adjust the firearm to suit you, and banning pistol grips is meaningless (what does it matter which way the gun is held?).
We, therefore, ask that President Obama pledge not to pursue the renewal of such a ridiculous policy which is a clear violation of the Second Amendment and our liberties as Americans.
