If a body of text is protected by the freedom of speech (say, for example this body of text) and it's transformed by another body of text, also protected by the freedom of speech (say, an encryption algorithm like the one used on this very page, established by case law: Bernstein v. United States) the resulting body of text must also be protected by the freedom of speech.
In the wake of the Charlie Hebdo attacks, David Cameron proposed new draconian restrictions on the usage of end-to-end encryption without backdoors for LEO. Besides being unenforceable and impractical, these new restrictions would be unconstitutional violations of the first amendment.
This petition requests that the administration abandon any attempt to restrict the right of the people to encrypt.
