Many states and localities have introduced measures regarding marijuana which conflict with federal law. Though Obama has promised to end a Draconian practice of the Bush Administration, some businesses and individuals have been unfairly targeted by the DEA and DOJ even when in compliance with their state or local laws. In fact, some statistics indicate that this practice has increased since Obama took office. In light of the recent election results in Colorado, Washington, and Massachusetts, it is more important than ever that the federal government clearly state their intentions and treat these laws with the respect they deserve. Though it is not possible to change the Controlled Substances Act without an act of Congress, the Administration can choose to direct resources to other areas.
