Recently, several petitions were submitted via the "We the People" feature on the whitehouse.gov website, petitioning The White House for permission to secede "peacefully" from the United States. One such petition, created by someone named "Micah H." on 11/09/2012 from Texas, asserted that "do so would protect its citizens' standard of living and re-secure their rights and liberties..."
As a long-term resident of Texas and a gay male I have suffered discrimination in my home state. I work in a healthcare field and encounter uninsured people struggling to pay their medical bills daily; I struggle to pay my own. Texas does not care for its own residents and NEEDS the federal government. Please do not include me in the secession request. Thank you.
