Dear President Obama,
I have been recently shocked by reading about Human Trafficking and Forced Labor —a thriving, illegal, international business with a total annual value of $32 billion in the trade of human lives.
The United Nations reports that at any given time, 2.5 to 2.7 million people are “recruited, entrapped, transported, and exploited” by human traffickers. I understand that at least 14,500 to 17,500 people are trafficked for sexual slavery or forced labor each year in the U.S. alone.
As someone who holds to our country’s just condemnation of slavery, I’m urging you to make it a priority in your second term of office to combat human trafficking, both in the U.S. and around the world. I firmly believe that if we take action, Human Trafficking and Forced Labor can be stopped.
