Following the reelection of President Obama, many people created petitions requesting that their states be granted permission to secede from the Union and form their own independent nation. According to the White House petitions terms of use, petitions receiving more than 25,000 signatures within 30 days merited a response. Despite multiple secession petitions reaching the limit of 25,000 and one of them reaching more than 100,000, the White House has been silent on the issue. We understand that responding would be giving legitimacy to a group that is opposed to the President and his policies, but if the President means what he says, and I quote "My administration is committed to creating an unprecedented level of openness in government" his administration will respond to these petitions.
