In 1975 the Australian government had a shutdown similar to the one we just faced in the United States. As they were, at that time, a part of the British Commonwealth, the Crown exercised its power and dismissed both the Prime Minister and the entire body of Parliament.
Australia has not seen a government shutdown since.
We are no longer under the jurisdiction of the British government, but we do have our own, though vastly different, locus of power. It is in the people who our legislature represents, people who are at this moment very, very angry. We feel powerless, but we do have the power of our votes. Let's not wait up to seven years for the memory to fade, for politicians to push us to forget.

Fire the Senate.
