the flag flying over the iwo jima memorial in arlington cemetary is a 50 star flag - everyone knows that alaska and hawaii were NOT yet states at the time of the flag raising - in connecticut, the iwo jima monument has a historically accurate 48 star flag flying - at fort mchenry, where the giant 15 star flag (also with 15 stripes) inspired francis scott key to write the star spangled banner, a giant 15 star/15 stripe still flies above it to remind us - why should the iwo jima monument be any different?
