The United States (US) and Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) do not have diplomatic relations, and have not had relations since the 1948 formation of the DPRK. Since detente in the 1970s, the US has established diplomatic relations with other communist nations such as China and Vietnam, which later introduced reforms.
During a February 2013 visit to the DPRK, former National Basketball Association player Dennis Rodman met with the DPRK's new leader, Kim Jong Un. Now, Rodman and Kim are "friends for life". Given the positive relationship, Rodman may be able to convince Kim to implement free market reforms. As such, the US should establish diplomatic relations with the DPRK and appoint Dennis Rodman ambassador to the DPRK. In the alternative, actor Gary Busey should be appointed.
