Lobbying may at one point have been beneficial to the U.S., but today it creates more opportunity for harm to the nation than it helps. That members of congress can leave modest paying jobs as elected officials on day and immediately be hired for a million dollars per year because of the access their former position gets them says more about the nature of lobbying than anything. Therefor, legislation must be enacted whereby anyone who enters state or federal elected office must be prohibited from lobbying at that level after leaving elected office for a minimum of 20 years. Such a ban should be applied to Congressional Staff members as well. The aim of those seeking to enter public service should be just that - not to one day recoup lost earnings with interest at the public's expense.
