According to the U.S. Census 2011, 66% of all homicides from 2000-2008 were due to some type of firearm. Although this petition realistically does not seek the banning of all firearms, including handguns and guns used for hunting, it would seem that a logical response to gun violence would be to restore the ban on assault weapons and high capacity clips. Such items are not used for hunting, home protection, or personal protection; their sole purpose is to kill people, often large numbers of people. A reasonable and common sense approach to removing these weapons from the hands of those who would harm others is requested.
