Restore the Federal Trade Commission's unfairness doctrine in order to restrict television food advertising to children!

Created by M.S. on November 07, 2013

Food ads on TV directed at children are often calorie dense, containing large amounts of added sugar, salt, and fat. These ads are related to the amount of calorie dense foods children eat ultimately causing weight gain and often obesity. Many food advertisements are directed at children under the age of 8, who according to the American Psychological Association, children under the age of 8 lack the cognitive ability to recognize the persuasive intentions of ads. These ads directed at children should be restricted in an effort to combat increasing rates of childhood obesity. The Federal Trade Commission may be able to deem these advertisements as unfair and enforce restrictions on them if Congress reinstates their ability to act under the unfairness doctrine.
