When I was 18 years old. I was having dinner with a friend when he decided that it would be a great idea to pull a gun and rob the restaurant we were sitting in! After he made a deal with the state to receive a lighter sentence, he testified against me, saying that I was his look out. I had no gun. I never even opened my mouth. I didn't take anything, from anyone. I served 4 years in prison and 2 on parole.
Now 13 years have past since my conviction. I have attended college, gotten married, had kids, I own a business, and I am well known and respected in my community. However, I still cannot vote or buy a gun to protect my home and family.
I just want the same rights that you have. Have I not paid for my mistakes?
