On Monday, October 31, the United States ended funding to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, which protects historic heritage sites worldwide, and works to improve world literacy, access to schooling for girls and cultural understanding. The U.S. will therefore be withholding 22% of UNESCO's budget which will severely inhibit its ability to continue fulfilling its goals.
The move is a backlash by the U.S. because UNESCO voted to admit Palestine to the body as a full member. The loss of funding for the organization will have detrimental consequences to improving world cultural preservation and understanding.
We therefore petition the Obama Administration to restore full funding to the UNESCO and repeal the law which requires the withdrawal of funding.
