24-hour news networks are a problem. They each cater their content to appeal to a base of viewers, and endorse views and businesses that bring in ad revenue and high ratings. Every major 24-hr network is guilty of this.
Enact a law that requires all major cable news outlets to police each other. Each one must prominently host a webpage on each relevant website they own--but they can't control the content of the page. It must be edited through an outside website administration program, to which all members of every OTHER news network has access. Each network must monitor the content of the others to discredit false/misleading info.
If each media outlet polices the others, the intent of freedom of the press is preserved--it just won't protect them from having their lies exposed.
