Memorial Day was long ago established to be observed on May 30th each year, regardless of what day of the week it fell on. In 1971 Congress authorized, via the National Holiday Act, to observe Memorial Day (and other holidays) on a Monday to ensure a three day weekend. The result has been an ever increasing apathy from Americans regarding the true meaning of the day. Rather than attending parades and honoring those who have fallen in defense of this country, Americans and especially young people only see the day as the unofficial start to summer. Help properly honor those who gave the last full measure of devotion to secure every liberty we take today for granted by moving Memorial Day back to May 30th.
