The battleship has in the past represented the pride and strength of a country. In these modern times we have forgotten how important symbolism can be. It would not be too devastating an effort to restore one of the Iowa class ships to operational status as the National Defense Authorization Act of 2007 left measures to keep the ships in a functional state. Just one of these ships could provide a moral boost and help Americans remember their history and heritage.
